The Misunderstanding

I am not the staple food
which feeds the
body -- whole.
I am the spice.
I am the salt that
wars were
fought
about.
That stung each wound
it nurtured back.
That added
spark to
life
I am not the collective bulk
of the sword.
I am the elegant coarseness
that it grades upon,
which creates edge
from mere form.
And to value me,
Is to appreciate that.
